What does violence look like in a romantic relationship? Does it always go through physical violence, or could it be something mental too? How do we identify signs of dating violence?
In this episode of Reloscope: The Relationships Science Insights Podcast, host Aditi Kutty dives deep into this topic with Dr. Monica Kearney, or Dr. K for short.
She received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. As a doctoral candidate, her research focused on the relationship between gender roles and dating violence and college students’ abilities to recognize warning signs of dating violence.

Dr. K. has taught classes centering on the development of basic helping skills, the psychology of women, understanding multiculturalism from a psychological perspective, and understanding the experiences of men, the concept of masculinity, and the impact of gender roles and other social identities on mental health.
Dr. K. serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee within the Department of Psychology at the University of Maryland. In this role, she has co-led several workshops for faculty members at the University on decentering whiteness from their courses and addressing microaggressions in the classroom.

How does sexual desire affect our romantic relationship? Is sexual desire essential for a romantic relationship?
In this episode of Reloscope: The Relationships Science Insights Podcast, host Aditi Kutty will discuss the effect of lust/ sexual desire with Nitasha Strait, Ph.D., M.Ed., MA, LMFT, CST–the owner/CEO of The Better You Institute, LLC, where she is a licensed marriage and family therapist, certified sex therapist, and clinical supervisor specializing in couples and sex therapy.
She started working in community-based programs throughout Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Here, she learned the power of family systems and attachment. Within your family system, you discover more discover more about relationships and yourself. Sometimes, this learning can serve you in adulthood, and sometimes what you’ve learned is maladaptive for adulthood.
Nitasha realized how big of a gap or how much misinformation there often was in her clients’ learned narratives about sex and sexuality and how greatly that impacted them daily with themselves and their loved ones. It has become her life’s mission to serve as many people as possible, helping individuals untangle sexual scripts that block them from getting what they want.
Aditi and Nitasha discuss the effects of sexual desire and lust on our romantic relationships, the definition of lust, and whether it is a must to have a sexual desire when we have a romantic relationship, and how that manifests in a healthy relationship.

All couples experience stress in their relationships. Stress can come from a variety of factors. From arguments, differences in wants and needs, or neglected feelings. So how should we deal with relationship stress? And how does relationship stress impact our daily life?
In this episode of Reloscope: The Relationships Science Insights Podcast, host Aditi Kutty is joined by Dr. Ashley K. Randall, an Associate Professor in Counseling and Counseling Psychology at Arizona State University, USA. Her area of expertise is in how couples cope with stress in the context of the relationship.
Dr. Randall has presented and published internationally on these topics. She is the Co-Chair of Division 52’s Science Committee and the Editor-in-Chief of Personal Relationships, the flagship journal of the International Association for Relationship Research. A Fulbright Alumna (Switzerland, 2007) and Specialist (Indonesia, 2023), she is dedicated to international educational exchange.
Dr. Randall is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association’s Division 52 (International Psychology).

Reloscope: The Relationships Science Insights Podcast

Relationships are like a kaleidoscope -- lots of little shapes in lots of colours that blend together in sometimes beautiful, sometimes uncomfortable ways. They're complicated, different personalities and different expectations, and for most of us, negotiating all of that is tough. Your Host, Marie Stella Quek, is going to be your companion, your friend, your agony aunt riding with you on your journey to a healthier relationship. She talks to experts who give actual good advice on a range of topics, like encouraging emotional intimacy through mindful communication and dealing with a partner who has anxiety. And sometimes, things get a little bit spicy. Each topic addresses an element from the comprehensive framework of several domains and elements created by the Center for Relationships Science and we would like to credit them for their work.
